Tommy Ashby - “Dangerous”
From Scotland, indie music songsmith Tommy Ashby has been one of our favorite finds since the blog’s inception. We have featured everything he has sent over to us and today we are pleased to share his latest emotive single, “Dangerous.”
At the press of the play button, the vocal performance begins, nestled between acoustic and electric guitars. Fans of Jeff Buckley and Thom Yorke will likely find themselves instantly enchanted with Ashby’s entire delivery as his voice seems to defy all melodic laws of nature, with nary a hint of autotune or and other sign of digital manipulation. Quite simply, he has the voice of an angel and we always look forward to every tune he sends our way.
A slightly warbling trace of tremolo saturates the electric guitar track and, as the song progresses, a distant swelling of synth rises to expand the soundscape. Ashby’s voice rises and falls in its intensity, providing “Dangerous” with lush moments of ebb and flow throughout its duration, effortlessly shifting from emotional tenor to breathy falsetto. The eventual arrival of warm notes from a bass and a subtle rhythm add weight to these dynamic shifts, ultimately culminating in a vocal harmony that has brought us back for multiple listens.
The final third of “Dangerous” erupts into a fully fleshed groove that elevates the listening experience to that of an anthemic indie rocker. This hard-hitting beat seems to allow Ashby enough room to offer glimpses of the sheer power behind his vocal, which only leaves the listener wanting more. Overall, the song is a superb example of modern folk craftsmanship and we truly cannot wait for you to get it into your ears.
“Dangerous” was co-written with Chris Bond (Ben Howard, Nick Mulvey) and is now available everywhere you get your music via Dance To The Radio. Connect with Tommy Ashby here: Instagram | TikTok | Facebook | Twitter | YouTube | Spotify
