UK-based singer-songwriter Zoe Konez is back on the blog with “Time For Tea,” the sixth single from her forthcoming album.

Time For Tea” fills your ears with the raw and stripped-back sounds that have become the hallmark of the indie folk genre. An ambient synth provides a distant, cinematic pad for the arrangement, which is predominately built upon the rich and vivid strumming of an acoustic guitar. An ethereal melody is provided across the top, imbuing the song an intimate but well-rounded listening experience.

The vocal performance of Konez maintains this enriched sense of proximity, getting up close to her listener while revealing some delicate subject matter. “Time For Tea” was written when COVID restrictions were in full effect, so its lyrics contain a great deal of the desperation that many of us found in dealing with isolation. It is an authentically honest exemplar of the struggle to find an actual human connection, even if just for a cup of tea.

As the synthy tones make their way to the foreground, patient listeners shall be rewarded with some choral layers of vocals that bring an angelic conclusion to “Time For Tea.” In all sincerity, these glorious textures of voices will likely be what keep you returning to the song for multiple listening sessions, if Konez’s heartfelt and emotionally-charged storytelling doesn’t get to you first.
