Max Bien Kahn - “Ghost Song”
New Orleans-based singer-songwriter Max Bien Kahn has just released the cinematic doo-wop inspired track, “Ghost Song.”
“Ghost Song” embodies a deeply sentimental and nostalgic mood reminiscent of songs from the late 1950s and early 1960s, inviting you to get lost in a moment. Over the slow, steady and gentle pulse of the warm, rounded bass and sweeping drums, Max Bien Kahn paints a retro mood with a mostly modern texture pallet. Reflective synths with smooth, warm tones delicately fill out the composition.
As the song grows dynamically embellishes of arpeggiating tremolo guitar and brass are added. Similar to a classic track, the vocal of Max Bien Kahn is filled with a timeless sentimental charm as it gently fleshes out the simple but sincere melody. Supported by close harmonies, the performance has a pleasant, unforgettable charm.
Max Bien Kahn wrote “Ghost Song” after encountering his mother in his dreams after she had passed, waking up convinced that he had actually seen her ghost: “Ghost Song” has the obvious doo-wop and Phil Spector influence in the music, we tried to create a dreamy and cinematic vibe to capture the mood. Although it’s sweet and sad to see the ghost of someone you love, it’s also a little spooky.”
Timeless and emotive, “Ghost Song” taken from the album, Flowers, out today in collaboration with Defend Vinyl Records(Liverpool) and Well Kept Secret (New Orleans). Connect with Max Bien Kahn: Spotify | Soundcloud | Bandcamp | Instagram | Facebook
