Guinevere - “Generational Fear”

Italian-born singer-songwriter Guinevere has just released the sublime “Generational Fear.”

Reminiscent of Blur, Talk Talk, and more contemporary artists like Tei Shi, “Generational Fear” genre blends art rock, ambient pop, post-rock, and alternative confidently. Atmospheric, meticulously arranged, “Generational Fear” takes many twists and turns, veering from ambient soundscapes laced with birdsong to moments of visceral passion supported with intense, almost chaotic lead guitar. With an unconventional structure and rich textural experimentation, its turbulent, sprawling arrangement never feels unhinged, instead charting a course towards a bold anthem.

Guinevere helps glue the track together with an impeccable vocal performance. She sails from ethereal, sultry tones that breathily rise into falsetto, to raw, cathartic, almost primal shouts. Her delivery satisfyingly fierce and compelling from the first to the last word. Lyrically, Guinevere paints a portrait of a generation traumatised, shaken, and in crisis, yet the song is an anthem full of hope and invites humanity to come together.

Guinevere adds: “Generational Fear was born out of a moment of deep sorrow, from the danger of a disillusioned resignation to the inability to cope with life, and from the frustration of watching a generation of young people that's ready to change the world but is oppressed by a system that restricts individual freedom and does not welcome sensitivity, change and diversity. It is a collective chorus that wants to give back a voice to those whose voices have been taken away; it is an invitation to hold hands and believe, with strength and determination, in a new world.”

Fascinating, idiosyncratic and stunningly accomplished “Generational Fear” is a track not to be missed. Connect with Guinevere: Spotify | Instagram | Facebook | Bandcamp
