Wryn - “Only Thing”

From California, alt folk artist Wryn has returned to the blog with “Only Thing,” a love song that encourages listeners to let go of the things they cannot control.

We’ve been fans of Wryn since we first heard “Snake,” so we truly could not wait to write a few paragraphs about “Only Thing.” This indie folk number gets underway with a steady, muted rhythm that enriches the arrangement with a heartbeat until the drums arrive. The vibe is chill and the sound is deliciously analogue, immersing the listener in a 1970s production, with nary any evidence of digital enhancement.

As with “Snake,” Wryn’s vocal performance is what has ultimately and unreservedly won us over here, with an authentic, raspy, and intimate delivery that, at times, reminds us of Sharon Van Etten– one of our all time favorites. A soft harmony runs alongside the main line for most of the song’s duration, which has brought us back to “Only Thing” many times over.

About the track, Wryn offers: “Life is always shifting and evolving… and that’s a good thing. Change is the only constant… At some point, you just have to laugh.” Be sure to catch the video and connect with Wryn online: Spotify | YouTube | Bandcamp | Instagram | Facebook | TikTok
