Canadian-born, Australian-based singer-songwriter Laura Lucas returns to us with the “Reincarnation Song,” the first track from her forthcoming debut LP.

Reincarnation Song” marks the fifth occasion that we’ve featured the music of Lucas, and serves as a reminder of the way we first became enthralled by her sound. The track begins with the gritty strums of an acoustic guitar, dispersed across the top of a vintage-flavored drum kit. The vibe is raw and nostalgic, finding itself snug within our wheelhouse for the genre of indie folk.

Lucas’ vocal performance is what sends “Reincarnation Song” through the ceiling, completely nailing that modern, breathy folk sound that we so often crave. She delivers introspective lines of lyrics, stemming from the desire to come back as an eagle in the next life, while exploring “the inevitability of death as the very thing that makes life meaningful.”

The arrangement slowly expands, with the soft sounds of keys emerging above the deep notes from a bass. Flourishes of lead guitar find their place, occasionally providing some additional dimension to the soundscape. On the second verse, a warm vocal harmony finds its position, which will most assuredly bring music lovers back for multiple spins.

This tune comes complete with a gentle guitar solo before retreating into another round from the refrain. Lucas adds that “Reincarnation Song“ “grapples with the deep desire to have all the time in the universe with the people you love, while embracing the cyclical nature of existence.” With meaningful lyrics and a topnotch production, you cannot go wrong in adding this one to your long list of favorites.
