Waldo Witt - “Thread”

Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter John Waldo Wittenmyer, aka Waldo Witt, returns to the blog with the indie psych track, “Thread.”

Thread” is founded around a squelchy bass and classic steady, laid-back drum beat which brings to mind songs from the late 1960s. The groove is all important but there are pleasing moments of technical complexity thrown tinging the track in a more modern vibe during the musical breaks.

Above this foundation the cosmic swirls of stoner psych rock are allowed to play like evening sunlight on a hazy city skyline. Warm electric guitar fuzz, stern piano chords, glassy synths all build in to introspectively euphoric bursts of magic. The syrupy kaleidoscope of noise though feels more like early Hawkwind or Cream rather than Tame Impala, though the music would certainly please admirers of Mr Parker.

Hazy, surreal, and beautifully melodic, Waldo Witt delivers a confident vocal that is light and airy. Progressively effects are applied giving a heavier and heavier acid drenched hue to the performance. Lyrically, Waldo Witt leads us on a journey of self-discovery and transformation touching on themes of nature and truth. “Thread” is a delightful, spaced-out track filled with heavenly, trippy textures and expansive vocals. Make sure you add this one to your playlist!
