Filiah - “On & On”

Austrian indie-folk artist Filiah has just released the nostalgically tinged sounds of “On & On.”

On & On” gets started with a tight, upbeat rhythm that is bound to get your feet tapping at the press of the play button. From there, a creamy 1970s bass emerges, permeating with a delicious vintage compression, warmly akin to the sound of Fleetwood Mac’s “Dreams.” Filling in the cracks of the production is a softly strummed acoustic guitar, which satisfyingly rounds out the arrangement.

Filiah’s vocal performance is simply astounding, and we marvel at her ability to gently drift in and out of a soft falsetto, delivering lines of lyrics that traverse the “universal experience of navigating personal pressures and artistic uncertainty.” Layers of auxiliary vocals arrive over the refrain to harmonize with the main line, imbuing “On & On” with a deeper sense of dimension and enriching your listening experience.

We’ve found that Filiah’s voice is equal parts Stevie Nicks, Phoebe Bridgers, and Edie Brickell, offering music lovers a taste of talent that sonically spans decades, which, in turn, offers a warm blanket of comforting nostalgic vibes. As “On & On” progresses, reverberating and ghostly notes from a lead guitar ensure that we all return to the track for multiple listening sessions.

Filiah adds that “On & On” stems from the feeling of shame and “working through those feelings, facing them head-on, and finding freedom on the other side. I wanted to write a song that feels uplifting and hopeful, like the first rays of spring sunshine, yet hides some dark shades as well, if you choose to look beneath.”
