W. Y. Huang - “Knots”

New York-based singer-songwriter W. Y. Huang has just released the meditative indie folk track “Knots.”

Knots” is an exquisitely intimate track founded on the weaving, mellow tones of finger-picked electric guitar. The texture is warm and immersive, creating a mood of gentle melancholy. The stripped-back arrangement features rich and evocative textures that tenderly enhance the reflective atmosphere.

Deep bass elegantly intensifies the sense of emotion with a thick, resonant sound. Touches of legato violin imbue a feeling of poignancy while creating a vivid sense of tension. Delightfully contrasting these layers are the bright, clear, chiming notes of what I believe is a glockenspiel.

Huang delivers and incredibly tender and delicate vocal. The intimate nature of the performance and expressive, emotive phrasing wonderfully captures the melancholic essence and vulnerability of the composition. “Knots” is another superb release by Huang, serving as the title track of his new EP, which is now available everywhere.

W. Y. Huang began writing Knots as a means to heal after a sudden illness left him bedridden. Faced with chronic pain, Huang retreated from the vibrant energy of New York City to find solace in the introspective quiet of the country. He adds that “Writing music became a way to heal, a way to give voice to pain, loss, and change… It gave me hope in life and music again.”
