Tom Webber - “This Time”

We usually like our indie delivered to our ears in a much more melancholic package, but once we got an earful of Tom Webber’s new tune, “This Time,” we simply could not deny its infectious rhythm.

This Time” opens with a full production in attendance– a quick, lo-fi drum fill sets this track ablaze, immediately extending a righteous, ear-worm of a guitar melody. The beat is quite energetic here, but it’s the weekend and there will be plenty of time for us to get back to our regularly scheduled sad songs once Monday morning comes back around.

Webber’s vocal performance has been warmly over-driven, permeating a retro-tinged vibe that lands “This Time” perfectly within our niche. And we are often drawn to songs that utilize this method, as it provides a sublime combination of both the classic and the modern, instilling the overall sound with a timeless edge.

Ghostly backing vocals pad the already catchy hook, just above the driving bass and jangly guitars, bound to leave a lasting impression on all who hear. And as a pinch of dynamic fluctuation, Webber furnishes our ears with a stripped-back break before the final throw of choruses, bringing the track down to an intimate guitar and vocal– the cherry on top of this divine slice of indie pie.

This Time” is the first cut we’ve heard from Webber, but if this sound is indicative of what his future releases have in store, we guarantee that this will not be the last time he appears on our blog. From the songwriting to the performance and production, this is one that you cannot afford to miss.
