The Wans - “Otherside”

The Wans have just released “Otherside,” demonstrating, once again, the Nashville-based band’s talent for writing gritty and catchy indie rock songs. The song starts with distorted, fuzzy guitar tones and an opening bass line hook. The kick drum pushes us in and the song builds perfectly.

The fuzzy guitars give “Otherside” a really great texture, whilst the bass guitar provides a nice depth. The song’s energy is maintained by the rhythm section, with the drums giving plenty of great fills and rolls. The guitar work is quite understated, but focuses more on excellent tones, especially over the chorus lines. There is a really great mood that is created by each of these elements working together.

The band’s ability to create tension and release it is evident in the middle section of the song. Drum fills roll before the song ignites into a satisfying guitar solo. The vocal performance has a cool, relaxed delivery, hitting all the right tones while delivering the lyrics that focus on how we develop and reflect on regret– a coming-of-age love song.

Otherside,” by The Wans, is a great little indie rock song and will leave you anticipating their LP, Magical Touch, coming out on July 26.
