Tennessee Kamanski - “Collies”
California alt-folk singer-songwriter Tennessee Kamanski has just released the dream-pop infused single, “Collies.”
After a brief, ethereal tone, “Collies” is brought to life through a series of a hammer-ons and pull-offs performed on a vibrant acoustic guitar. Beneath this heavenly display of sound, a kick drum reliably provides the song with a heartbeat, encouraging the listener to tap their feet to the chilled-out, dreamy soundscape.
Upon the arrival of the snare drum, Kamanski begins her remarkable vocal performance, double-tracked to near perfection and warmly reminiscent to the glory of Julien Baker, Joanna Newsome, and Adrianne Lenker. To add a sense of weight to the arrangement, the deep notes from a bass are deployed, rounding out the sound with a rich fullness.
Digital artifacts spontaneously appear throughout the production, gifting “Collies” with a touch of depth and ensuring that the listener remains engaged. And as far as ear candy is concerned, the song comes equipped with some angelic vocal harmonies in its final third, which have successfully brought us back for many listens.
This is our first time hearing from Kamanski, but if she keeps making music like “Collies,” we certainly hope that it’s not the last. Do your ears a favor and press that play button.
