Opheliah - “Hunters”

From Leeds, indie rockers Opheliah have just released “Hunters,” a nostalgic and flavorful journey through deep affection.

Above the smooth strums of acoustic guitar, “Hunters” also provides the ethereal cries of effected slide guitar, which will likely instantly enchant you, just as it did us. It is not long before the entire band shows up, providing an energetic and mellifluous jaunt, brimming with analogue production.

Hunters” is one of those songs that appears to have been crafted by musician folk who know their way around the recording studio– there is never a moment where the track panders to digital manipulation or even a hint of software instruments. In fact, if we didn’t know any better, we’d say that the song is a wonderful glimpse into experiencing the band on stage.

The vocal performance bears this same, authentic weight, cutting through the mix with over-driven tube saturation. The lyrics run the listener through a myriad of memories, likely personal to the songwriter, but nevertheless believable and relatable, allowing us to feel the warm glow of our own, private histories.

On the hook, Ophelia delivers what is bound to become one of your favorite refrains for the summer– it is not at all difficult to imagine it as part of the soundtrack to all the memories we’ve yet to make. And with lyrics like, “But the sun never leaves me, Long as I see your eyes,” we anticipate the tune making its way onto the playlists that lovers send back and forth, though one need not be in love to enjoy “Hunters” to its fullest.

If you find yourself drawn to the sounds of Ocean Colour Scene, Slaughter Beach, Dog, or Twin Peaks, then we highly suggest getting “Hunters” into your ears asap.
