Slow Coast - “Lotta Good“
California-based Matt Lawton, aka Slow Coast, has returned to us with a new slice of indie rock pie: “Lotta Good.”
True to the song’s name, there are a lot of great things happening here, particularly if you are a fan of that thick and fuzzy riffing akin to The Black Keys and early Arctic Monkeys. The track opens with a gloriously over-driven bass line that has been designed to immediately capture the attention of its listener– it had us hooked as soon as we pressed the play button.
It is not long before a thunderous beat emerges, taking full advantage of the tom toms, with some shimmering and melodic guitar work flying over the top. “Lotta Good” is host to all of these ingredients, never once falling into the rut of modern production shenanigans and, instead, living in the realm of lo-fi and authentic, salt-of-the-earth indie rock.
Lawton’s vocal arrives, mirroring the raw and gritty appeal set forth by the arrangement, immediately nailing our niche for the genre. His voice is warmly reminiscent of Dan Auerbach and is a perfect match for the overall vibe. The lyrical content traverses the idea of confidently moving forward through life, though it may seem that the universe is working against you– we’re quite certain that this will relate to the masses.
If you’re looking for something to get your motor running on this first Monday of July, look no further than “Lotta Good.” It’s got just the right amount of that rock and roll attitude to get you through the entire workweek.
