Rose Brokenshire - “When I Grow Up”

We have ended up featuring every song that Revelstoke, BC-based singer-songwriter Rose Brokenshire has sent over to us, and we are very pleased to inform you that this streak continues upon the release of “When I Grown Up.”

This track begins in a lo-fi manner, bringing a tape-warbling production into the ears of the listener, gently kissed by the lips of the psychedelic. It appears to be the perfect cosmic marriage between piano and guitar, though we do not have much time to decide before Brokenshire ushers in her enchanting vocal performance.

A pulse has been provided by a subdued rhythm, lending the sense of being submerged beneath a sonic sea. Across the top, transcendent lyrics are delivered in a multi-layered dreamscape of poetic bliss. When we say that we are fans of dream pop, “When I Grown Up” is precisely the sound that we have in mind.

The track is built upon a grand crescendo, slowly growing in intensity over its duration, picking up additional textures of ethereal sounds, as well as a fully-fleshed beat to support these dreamlike elements. On its lyrical surface, “When I Grown Up” is quite brief, but its contents are designed to stir your soul, especially when it comes to the manner in which they are delivered.

Brokenshire has a profound gift for songwriting, including a mellifluous delivery system, so we remain confident that you will find her work just as mesmerizing as we do. Press play and find out.
