jules - “faceplant”
Toronto-based singer-songwriter jules returns to us with an intimate and angelic new single: “faceplant.”
“faceplant” opens to the remarkably stripped-back sounds of a gently strummed acoustic guitar, wonderfully setting a heartwarming and folksy vibe. The overall production is quite sparse and lo-fi, inviting the listener to promptly lose themselves within the enchanting and introspective sonic landscape.
The vocal performance of jules is just as magnificent as we recall, delightfully layered in mellifluous textures and double-tracked to indie-folk perfection. Rising swells of ambience break the surface of the recording, imbuing “faceplant” with an astounding sense of prolific width and depth.
A barebones beat joins the arrangement after the first refrain, providing “faceplant” with just the right amount of forward momentum. But even as the track grows to include additional elements, it never once loses its intimate nature and you need to get it into your ears as soon as humanly possible.
