From New Zealand, alt-pop artist Rita Laing, aka Rita Mae, returns to the blog with the catchy and upbeat sounds of “Poster Child.”

There is an undeniable energy at the heart of this song, which is quite obvious soon after the press of the play button. “Poster Child” begins with some digitally-nuanced artifacts that create the energy of anticipation, brought to fruition when the rhythm arrives at just around the ten-second mark.

Rita Mae’s vocal performance is as infectious as the rest of the arrangement, injecting a melodic sense of excitement that traverses the thoughts of being bored while still seeking validation. And while the subject matter is bound to resonate with most listeners, the instrumental also provides a danceable groove that has been carefully designed to elevate one’s mood.

Poster Child” contains elements for music fans from multiple genres, most notably indie pop, with a constant guitar presence to satiate the rockers. However, the highlight here is Rita Mae’s vocal melody on the hook, leading listeners in and out of her upper register. With multiple occasions set aside for dynamic variation, this song is going to ebb and flow its way into all of your favorite playlists.

The track is a bit more upbeat and energetic than we typically feature on our blog, but “Poster Child” is such an ear-worm of a tune that we could not resist churning out a few paragraphs about it. The song comes ahead of Rita Mea’s EP, Kiss The Sky, due for release on November 8th.

About the upcoming EP, Rita Mae adds: “The project is about saying exactly what I feel and what I want, without shying away from any of those feelings. It's colourful, emotional and to the point. It encapsulates the feeling of contentment and hunger and satisfaction and desire that I am feeling all at once right now. I am feeling particularly confident and bold, while at the same time my dreams feel insanely big and I feel rather small. In a nice way, though. A quiet peace while I watch all the magic flood in. These are strong, powerful alternative pop songs that ask you to listen to them and don’t apologise for asking.”
