Rita Mae - “Big Star”
New Zealand-based alt-pop artist Rita Mae has recently released the stripped-back and dreamy sounds of “Big Star.”
The song begins with a raw and intimate vocal delivery, emotively cast over the top of a solo, melancholic piano performance. The vibe is dark and chill, fully nailing our lo-fi niche as Rita Mae provides lines of lyrics that reveal the sacrifice that coexists with chasing one’s dreams.
As the track progresses, “Big Star” is joined by the quiet strums of an acoustic guitar, as well as gentle vocal layers that add a profound sense of width to the arrangement. On the refrain, Rita Mae gives listeners an ear-worm melody that displays evidence of her illustrious falsetto.
Ethereal elements are added to stretch the sonic landscape, as well as some bass to anchor “Big Star” to its foundation. And as the song swells into its final crescendo, layers upon layers of auxiliary vocals leave an epically resounding impression upon all those lucky enough to hear.
If you happen to be a fan of Lorde, King Princess, or Suki Waterhouse, then you’re going to completely lose yourself within this magical tune. “Big Star” is taken from Rita Mae’s forthcoming EP, Kiss The Sky, due for release on November 8.
