Pet Snake - “Crashing (Easy Version)”
Liverpool, England-based indie songstress Evelyn Halls, aka Pet Snake, returns to the blog with a raw and intimate take on “Crashing,” allowing listeners to fall in love with the song all over again.
We try not to make a habit out of featuring remakes of songs, especially if we’ve already covered the original, but the way that Pet Snake spoon-feeds us these emotionally-charged lyrics brings a sobering and undeniably intimate sense of character to the track that completely wins us over. “Crashing” was initially released in April, but this darker, more stripped back rendition hits different, allowing us to appreciate it as a completely new sonic entity.
“Crashing (Easy Version)” is built upon some layers of acoustic guitar, with Halls’ breathy and authentic vocal performance gliding across the top. The manner in which she reintroduces the subject matter allows it to gently land within the realm of indie folk, as opposed to the more pop-style production of the original version. Her upper register on the refrain leaves listeners absolutely no choice but to become completely enchanted, which is precisely what any good folk song should ultimately achieve.
Other than a bit of bass in the arrangement, it is almost as though you are witnessing your own private Pet Snake performance, which is the reason we found ourselves fully immersed in this one, and the reason we have not been able to stop listening to it since her label sent it over to us. “Crashing (Easy Version)” is now available everywhere for you to enjoy at your convenience via Dance To The Radio, home of some of our favorite finds since our blog’s inception.
