London-based Paul Cook & The Chronicles have returned to the blog upon the release of their new single, “Hosanna.”

We’ve featured every track that Cook has sent over to us, from blog favorite “Somebody Else” to “Passing Fad,” so we were more than delighted to find “Hosanna” in our box of submissions. Beginning with a lo-fi earful of acoustic guitar, the song immediately nails our niche for a retro-tinged, lo-fi production, while it paves the way for Cook’s remarkably warm vocal performance.

It does not take long for more elements to emerge, including another layer of vintage-hued vocals and the deeper, round notes from a bass guitar. Just after the one-minute mark, “Hosanna” is decorated with a barebones beat via the drum kit, followed closely by some vibey strums of electric guitar. However, a major highlight here is the inclusion of a dynamic bridge, which is bound to grab the attention of all who hear.

Cook adds that “Hosanna” is a “moving tribute to human connection. Spiritual rather than religious, the song’s lyrics look back at the past year with gratitude for those that helped navigate the darkness. “Hosanna” acts as a reflective marker for the end of something while also being the first in a series of new tracks to be released over the coming year.”

From the gentle nature of its lo-fi guitar, to the warmth of Cook’s inviting vocal delivery, we are confident that everyone will find a reason to love “Hosanna.” The track is now available everywhere and be sure to also catch up with Paul Cook & The Chronicles online: Spotify | Bandcamp | Instagram | TikTok | Apple Music | Facebook
