Joshu - “holding on”
Antigua-based indie-folk artist Joshu has just released the immersive “holding on.”
“holding on” is an exceedingly chilled and reflective track that envelops you in a warm, meditative sense of nostalgia. Built around a repeating guitar groove of mellow electric and acoustic guitar layers, and delicate touches of percussion, the track feels beautifully spacious. Almost conjuring the serene feeling of sitting on a beach on a warm evening, watching the waves gently lap the shore at sunset. As the track reaches its crescendo, the layers are pushed heavily into cavernous reverb, amplifying the sense of enveloping space and wistfulness.
Vocally, Joshu delivers a performance that is full of charm as it serves as the melodic and rhythmic focus. In the relaxed tones, articulation and phrasing there is a pleasant John Martyn-esque finesse to the delivery. With the well-executed layers of harmonisation, this track would work perfectly as an acapella.
“holding on” is the first track to be released from Joshu’s forthcoming EP. Effortless, intimate and full of emotional warmth, “holding on” would make the perfect addition to any music lovers’ playlist.
