From Waterville, Ohio, the always-impressive indie-folk trio known as Oliver Hazard have recently released “The Morning,” a track that traverses the complexity of time.

The Morning” begins with some noteworthy lo-fi acoustic guitar work, wonderfully finger-plucked to an intimate state of folk perfection. Like many of our favorite offerings from the genre, Oliver Hazard have imbued the song with a tightly bound, multi-tracked vocal performance that heavenly glides across the instrumental, likely capturing the interest of anyone within earshot.

The deep, round notes of a bass are next to arrive over the refrain, bringing a substantial weight to the song’s foundation and ensuring that the listener remains engaged. A second guitar arrives as “The Morning” enters its crescendo, with a subtle harmony layer of vocals added to provide a glorious sense of width.

On the final third, “The Morning” offers our ears a full-band production, with an extremely barebones rhythm that supports a light-spirited, almost Grateful Dead-esque, melodic guitar lead and a stack of auxiliary vocals that appear to go on for days. From there, we get another set of hooks, which will, no doubt, have you singing along by the time the song reaches its end.

About the track, the band offers: “Timing is one of the most important things in life, and it can be a tough thing to navigate. Missed connections, missed opportunities. ‘The Morning’ is a song about our relationships in life and wondering where exactly they will be the following morning. The song whispers that tomorrow could bring change, urging us not to assume that it will mirror today.”
