Jazzie Young - “Lux”

From Los Angeles, indie artist Jazzie Young has just released the deliciously melancholic sounds of “Lux.”

Jazzie Young has the unique gift of channeling the intimate and multi-layered stylings of The Staves, while also imbuing the sound with a hefty dose of Clairo and Suki Waterhouse. “Lux” begins fully intact, with a remarkable vocal performance strewn across the top of a chill and slow-burning arrangement. The vibe is instantly captivating and we would not be surprised if it became one of your new favorite songs after only hearing the first ten seconds of it.

The slow pulse of the rhythm is gentle enough to inspire some much needed introspection, while the lyrical content is bound to conjure the emotional agony of your last big breakup. Musical layers fall in and out of earshot, providing a full serving of ebb and flow, with a fairly dramatic dynamic break occurring around midpoint. “Lux” comes complete with a highlight on the multi-tracked vocals over the final thirty seconds, which has kept us coming back to it for multiple spins.

About the track, Young adds that “Lux” was “loosely inspired by the lead character “Lux” in Sofia Coppola's 1999 film "The Virgin Suicides". It's a dreamy melancholy song about wanting to be with someone post breakup and the feelings and memories that fill your brain when you haven't moved on. it was co-written by John Velasquez.”

Lux” is an exquisite piece of folksy dream pop and we would not be at all surprised if you ultimately end up adding it to all of your favorite playlists.
