Maida Rose - “Trying To Forget”
Dream pop duo Maida Rose, from The Hague, The Netherlands, has just released the evocative “Trying To Forget.”
“Trying To Forget” is rich in both mood and melodies that weave elegantly across the lush ethereal layers and subtle grooves of the composition. Fragile, intimate, mesmerising, the song unfolds over the heartbeat of an electronic drum kit. Chiming, reverb drenched guitar weightlessly sways and flows whilst warm bass brings a palpable weight of emotion over the choruses. Maida Rose also serves up a déjà entendu-esque like ear worm of a warbling guitar hook. Understated but it makes “Trying To Forget” simply unforgettable.
Vocally, the duo gives a strikingly refined dreamlike vocal performance that is rich in intimate, heavenly harmonies. The spine-tingling tones have the feeling of meditatively melting into each other as they float with a quiet intensity.
On the track Maida Rose adds: “Trying To Forget is a song about the complexities of holding onto memories from a past relationship and questioning whether they truly reflect reality. It’s about the struggle of trying to forget certain moments that still feel so vivid, even when you wish they would fade. The song was born during a creative retreat in a cabin in France, where we arrived with no music, just our gear, and the quiet of the wilderness around us. What started as a raw exploration of sound quickly transformed into a track that blends drum machines with indie folk-like guitar, capturing both the tension and release we felt. The storytelling in the vocals is more intimate, vulnerable, and deeply personal than before. Trying To Forget became a journey into the past, trying to make sense of memories, while still holding onto the hope of moving forward.”
Shimmering and extremely enjoyable, “Trying To Forget” is a song that you won’t want to miss. Maida Rose have once again knocked the ball out of the park. Connect with Maida Rose: Spotify | Instagram | Facebook
