Singer-songwriter Alex Bloom, from the USA, has just released the slow-burning indie rock ballad, “First Time.”

First Time” has a pleasant nostalgic edge, as if it is a deep cut from the 1970s. Enhancing this faded, dreamy atmospheric to the music is the lo-fi beginnings of electric guitar and vocals. Unhurried, warm, this opening brings an alluring intimacy which compels you to listen on to this beauty of a composition. Alex Bloom’s vocal is haunting almost spiritual in tone as it lightly floats above the hazy guitar in this section. Simply sublime!

As “First Time” gets into its musical stride the lo-fi layers are left behind transforming into a lush, grand ballad. Drums beat with a loose, vintage quality, as soothing waves of electric guitar and electric piano weave reflective emotion. In this section of the song, Alex Bloom serves up a vocal that is simply to die for. Hints of Chicago can be detected here with smooth, soulful tones and intricate swells of harmonies supporting in all the right places.

On the track Alex Bloom adds: “First Time is a fully indulged daydream. It’s the beginning of an album long journey that takes place as I fly from my hometown of Los Angeles to begin my life in NYC. The first part of the song is my original demo, with more of a lo-fi bedroom sound, recorded in my cousin’s attic in NYC on my laptop microphone, and the second part evolves into a hi-fi, fully produced studio soundscape... exactly how I had imagined it should sound at the time of writing and demoing it. The song is a microcosm of my own growth as an artist, a producer, and overall human.”

First Time” is an infectious, velvety ballad designed to carry you away on irresistible mellow currents of sound. The track is taken from Alex Bloom’s forthcoming album, Across the Country.
