Luke Sweeney - “Probably Me”

From San Francisco, California, Luke Sweeney has just released the sublime indie pop rock track, “Probably Me.”

Probably Me” is one of those tracks that perfectly distils the vibes of vintage pop and in the chemical process makes it into something irresistible and fresh. From the first notes the composition transports you back to a time when beehive hairstyles and cravats were the epitome of cool. Very few acts do this convincingly except maybe The Bees or even Kula Shaker.

Vintage, velvety and filled with breezy confidence, “Probably Me” is founded on an infectious shuffling percussive groove, the pace is unhurried and loose, much like a classic skiffle track. As you start to toe tap as if listening to your favourite track on a transistor radio, Luke Sweeney further wraps us up in this classic bubble with warm acoustic guitar, fizzy electric guitar lines, analog organs and a lush juicy bass.

Sweeney delivers an effortlessly cool, inviting vocal performance for this number. Filled with charm, smooth in tone, almost conversational, it imbues both a classic and modern twist as it further enhances the rhythm and groove. That’s all before we get to the playful, tight barber shop doo-wop inspired backing harmonies. Simply the performance is infectious.

On the track, Sweeney adds: “The 2 minutes and 34 seconds… contain a lyrical laundry list of rather comical common sins; but on the bright side, it seems that I’ve constructed a soulful, feel-good, strum-along anthem to bless the mess of our inner psyche… This song makes no apologies. Rather, it’s an invitation to shake off the cobwebs of self-contradiction in a distinctly human dance of exaltation - reminding us what a funny, beautiful thing it is to be human; to be ourselves.”

Probably Me” is taken from Luke Sweeney’s forthcoming album, Novel Tea. Whether you are a fan of old fashioned rock’n’roll or just great songs with timeless melodies, “Probably Me” is the song for you.
