Lior Holzman - “Essence”

From Tel Aviv, Israel, singer-songwriter Lior Holzman has just released the raw and stripped-back sounds of “Essence,” a song that journeys through a profound sense of loss.

In order to harness his sound, Holzman borrows a great deal of inspiration from the likes of Gregory Alan Isakov and Leonard Cohen. Like us, he is an admirer of the way they can saturate a recording using as few elements as possible. And that is exactly what you will find inside of “Essence,” as the song resides within an intimate realm, captured in one take and unedited to sustain its emotional integrity.

The quiet and delicate sounds of a finger-plucked acoustic guitar dominate the instrumental arrangement, providing a performance that we would happily have played at our own funeral. The only other sound in “Essence“ is Holzman’s honest vocal performance, delivering lines of lyrics that he penned after a close friend was forced to traverse the grieving process; it is this heartfelt authenticity that has ultimately earned the song a place on our site.

Essence” is now available everywhere and should fit rather comfortably among the playlists reserved for contemplating the fleeting moments of our earthly existence. Give it a spin and you will agree.
