Everyone’s favorite Brooklyn-based indie songsmith Lina K.O. is back with a new set of singles: “Wash Behind Your Ears” and “Back.” Let’s have a listen…

Wash Behind Your Ears” is built upon a slow churning, gradual crescendo that immediately reels you in with the droning strums of electric guitar. The sound is melancholic and reverberating, nailing our niche and wonderfully setting the mood for Lina’s vocal performance, which is just as delicate and Julien Baker-esque as we recall it to be.

A vocal harmony emerges as the arrangement expands with hints of synth in the background, along with another layer of guitar. Just past midpoint, the rhythm section arrives, ensuring that the listener remains engaged, while also providing some momentum. The finale is caked in so much reverb you will be able to taste it on your lips, complete with a synth solo that adds a cherry atop this cathartic musical sundae.

Back” is another atmospheric offering of melancholic indie, beginning with a dreamy guitar melody that beckons multiple listens. And not to keep bringing up Julien Baker, but there is a profound Sprained Ankle vibe across the work of Lina K.O. This could be the fact that it uses a lot of the same musical ingredients, as well as the idea that Lina does most of the recording and production herself.

Like “Wash Behind Your Ears,” “Back” is a gloriously slow crescendo, with multiple layers of ethereal vocals and heavenly guitar notes, all polished in a thick sheen of reverberation. The difference is that “Back” does not rely on a rhythm section to gain in intensity, but, instead, utilizes the multiple textures of vocals and an ocean of reverb to fully saturate the sonic landscape.

Both songs were originally going to be part of Lina K.O.’s last EP, Earth Apple, but we are certainly glad that she made us wait for them. “Wash Behind Your Ears” and “Back” are now available everywhere and we highly recommend that you get them into your ears as soon as humanly possible.
