Lily Kershaw - “Pain & More”

Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter Lily Kershaw arrives on our blog with the raw sounds of “Pain & More,” the title track from her new LP.

We are often drawn to a dark and gritty production, so the track’s initial melancholic strums of acoustic guitar immediately had our interest piqued. And knowing that “Pain & More” was penned in the aftermath of a relationship’s demise, we knew that it would end up right within our wheelhouse.

Kershaw’s voice fills our ears with an emotional and intimate performance as she treks through a despondent longing for simpler times. And although the lyrical content is full of agony, it is simply impossible not to let the song’s lullaby-like nature carry you away. This is particularly evident upon the arrival of the dreamy vocal harmony on the refrain.

A subtle synth tone swells and saturates the outer edges of the soundscape, with sporadically placed notes from a piano that melodically dance throughout the arrangement. “Pain & More” is one of those songs that you hear and immediately want to hear again, particularly if you’ve ever had your heart completely torn from your chest.
