Kyle Szalay - “Someday”

From Denver, Colorado, singer-songwriter Kyle Szalay has struck a chord, both literally and figuratively, with his new release: “Someday.”

The song is centered around the feeling of waking up one day and five years of your life have passed, yet you still feel the same– you’re suddenly older, with all the same issues that time should have somehow remedied. Through this simple pitch, we knew that we would feature “Someday” on the blog, but, of course, it does not hurt that the tune has been wonderfully crafted.

With “Someday,” it is almost as though you’re getting two songs in one– the intimate and emotional intro is primarily a 90-second solo performance, with Szalay utilizing his often-Dylan-esque vocal across the top of an acoustic guitar. But as the song grows in intensity, the arrangement populates until it is ultimately a full-band production, yet it never loses sight of the profound spark by which it was ignited.

Ear candy comes by way of some glorious licks from a lead guitar, tastefully displayed and arranged to entice listeners to return for multiple listening sessions. But where “Someday” completely blows us away is in the sheer ferocity of Szalay’s vocal performance on the final third, with a delivery that is unmistakably emotionally-charged and authentic– it’s the kind of vocal that forces you to believe every single word.

In just over four minutes, “Someday” will carry you through a myriad of emotions, which is exactly what good folk music should do. We cannot wait for you to hear it and, while you’re at it, be sure to connect with Kyle Szalay online: Spotify | TikTok | Instagram
