Even the organic drums feel mechanical, relentlessly driving the composition forward. The synth textures and electric guitar build tension and edginess, enveloping you in a soundscape that I can only compare to Death In Vegas crossed with David Holmes. All the time the bass pulses with a thick claustrophobic presence.
Julie Square delivers an understated vocal that serves only to heighten the dark, mesmerising air of the track. The calm, detached, almost robotic performance contrasts the intense sounds that surround. Unsettling yet seductive, the vocal only serves to lead you deeper into a mind-melting trance.
Julie Square describes the meaning behind the track: “The Bridge illustrates a Mad Max: Fury Road-esque dystopian world – a not-so-distant future of parched earth and infrastructure collapse. It follows two friends going on a joy ride and enjoying a brief respite from all the despair – driving up the bridge on the last good highway, dangling their feet over the edge, and embracing the warmth of a dangerous sun. It’s about looking your existential dread right in the face and daring to keep going.”
