Justin Sconza - “There’s That Sound”

Chicago-based singer-songwriter Justin Sconza returns to the blog with another track from his new album, “There’s That Sound.”

Sconza never ceases to amaze us with his lo-fi, analogue craft, creating all of his music at home on an 8-track recorder. “There’s That Sound” begins with some shimmering guitar chords, wonderfully dispersed above the ticking of a hi-hat. After a couple of bars, the production expands to include a more fleshed-out beat and some rich tones from the bass.

But where “There’s That Sound” completely wins us over is with Sconza’s vocal performance, as it has been masterfully multi-tracked in order to produce a wide and warbling slice of ear candy. Sconza’s variety of vocal textures allows the song to fully saturate every square inch of the sonic landscape, culminating in a sound that is sure to leave listeners wanting more.

We are also quite partial to the overall simplicity of Sconza’s production tactics, especially when the ability to record directly into a DAW is widely available, not to mention the convenience of utilizing various plug-ins and VSTs. There is something truly endearing and nostalgic occurring within his music that leaves a warm, ‘90s vibe in your ears, which is bound to hit home among many connoisseurs of indie rock.

There’s That Sound” comes from the LP, Campfire, which is now available everywhere, and we encourage you to give a fair share of spins. You should also connect with Justin Sconza across the internet: Spotify | YouTube | Bandcamp | Instagram
