just Min - “Cruel”

Seoul-born, Hong Kong-raised singer-songwriter just Min arrives on our blog with the astoundingly lo-fi and intimate sounds of “Cruel.”

It does not get much more raw and sparse than this, folks. From the press of the play button, “Cruel” enters your ears as though released from the confines of a cell phone’s voice memos. And while this level of production will not work for everyone, just Min has harnessed it and wrapped it around some heartfelt subject matter, creating a nice little package for your earholes.

The song is primarily acoustic guitar and a main vocal, with an extra layer of each thrown in for good measure. The lead melodically echos the vocal line, creating a delicate sense of dimension, but the star of this little show is definitely just Min’s voice, which, on occasion, reaches into the breathiest of falsettos, guaranteed to reel you in as a new fan.

This is our first time hearing from just Min, but if “Cruel“ is indicative of his future releases, we truly cannot wait to hear more from just Min. Stream “Cruel” wherever you get your music.
