Julia Logan - “Moodswings”
Sweden-based singer-songwriter Julia Logan returns to the blog with the warm and sincere sounds of “Moodswings.”
A tight and barebones beat gets this one started, immediately igniting an upbeat energy that is bound to result in your feet tapping along. Logan’s raw and intimate vocal performance arrives alongside a wonderfully plucked acoustic guitar, spreading the production to the far reaches of the folk-pop-inspired sonic landscape.
As “Moodswings” progresses, it picks up some musical passengers, like the deep warmth of a bass and subtle strums of an electric guitar. But where this track will completely win you over is with the elevation of the refrain, as Logan rises into here upper register, allowing her falsetto to break the highest peaks of the mellifluous arrangement.
Fantastic layers of auxiliary vocals and the quiet notes of a piano find their places, populating the soundscape to a divine level of seemingly infinite dreaminess. And patient listeners shall be rewarded with an otherworldly synth solo, injecting “Moodswings” with a warbling vibe that we did not know we needed until it appeared.
“Moodswings” was created in close collaboration with First Aid Kit’s producer, Daniel Bengtson and comes ahead of Logan’s LP, Faraway Nearby, slated for a November 1st release via Dumont Dumont. You can pre-order it here. And whatever you do, don’t sleep on this amazing live performance of the track:
