Slow Coast - “Better Weather”

California-based Matt Lawton, aka Slow Coast, returns with the indie rock track, “Better Weather,” which “explores the conflicting emotions involved in holding onto someone/something you know you shouldn't.”

Better Weather” instantly gives off that cool, detached garage rock revival vibe that The Stokes made popular when they released Is This It. The track has the same raw, gritty, stripped-down, back-to-basics production that brings to mind the punk and new wave movements of the 1970s and ‘80s.

Built on straightforward chord progressions, the song is clothed by rich, compressed, tight and crunchy guitar layers that play off of each other with breezy staccato grooves. Supporting this nostalgic texture is the metronomic-like drum beat and punchy, melodic bass that accentuate the groove and energy of the track delightfully, but never pushing into the flashy.

Slow Coast delivers a delightfully understated and catchy vocal performance. There is, however, a departure from the garage rock revival atmospheric when it comes to the mix. Instead of opting for a lo-fi aesthetic, we are given a strikingly melodic, optimistic and cleaner indie pop-rock production.

Better Weather” is an incredibly tightly crafted composition, brimming full with infectious hooks and showcasing Slow Coast’s talent for delivering joyful yet powerful grooves. Connect with Slow Coast: Bandcamp | Spotify | Instagram | TikTok | Apple
