Green Gardens from Leeds, United Kingdom, lead us on a surreal journey of loss, guilt and transformation with the velvety indie rock track, “Ghost of a Tree.”
“Ghost of a Tree” is a woozy, contemplative piece of music that wraps you up in a magically loose drum beat and sublime, weaving guitar layers. It isn’t long before your head is gently nodding to the gentle sway of the reflectively optimistic rhythm section. What is particularly special about the music is its simplicity. It is designed to be an ear worm much in the same way as Beck during the Mellow Gold era or even maybe The Beta Band during The Three Eps. Despite being exquisitely simple it is persistent, vibrant and filled with a widescreen sense of melancholy that flourishes into lazy, sun-drenched anthem.
Over the gentle shuffle of the groove is the half slacker rock, half mystic vocal delivery. Almost as if the lead singer has woken up from a half-remembered dream it increasing and rousingly carries you through the music. That’s all before we get to the beautifully executed harmonies that support you along your way.
