New York-based pop artist Emmrose has just released the confessional indie ballad “Heartbreaker.”

For those of you looking for a dreamy and melancholic journey through a blissfully chill sonic landscape, you have come to the right place. “Heartbreaker” opens to an otherworldly wonderland of carefully layered auxiliary vocals, strewn across the top of some subdued orchestral synth. The vibe is immediately alluring and we were hooked as soon as we pressed the play button.

Emmrose beholds a natural and raw talent, which is quite obvious once she begins delivering the lyrics. The tight vibrato of her voice imbues the performance with a classic aesthetic and we would love to hear her one day covering the music of Billie Holiday or Ella Fitzgerald. For a modern offering of indie pop, Emmrose makes a brilliant choice to refrain from excessive vocal tuning and needless digitally enhanced production.

As “Heartbreaker” progresses, the arrangement populates with additional elements– some rhythmic, others ethereal, but at its core, the song is centered around heartache, longing, and yearning, which just so happens to be right within our wheelhouse. The track concludes with an astounding performance via Emmrose’s upper register, winning us over as fans, eager to hear what she releases next.

About the track, Emmrose adds: “I wrote ‘Heartbreaker‘ like a diary entry…The inspiration started from my literal diary. It’s a crazy story, and I feel like the lyrics get the plot across enough, but it’s all true. I broke up with a boyfriend for someone else, and that made me a heartbreaker. My ex even explicitly called me a heartbreaker, and that’s what kinda brought this whole concept to life.”
