Elisabeth Pixley-Fink - “Those Were The Days”

Michigan-based indie artist Elisabeth Pixley-Fink returns to the blog with the viscerally nostalgic and angsty sounds of “Those Were The Days.”

The track fades in with a glorious swell of feedback before giving way to a catchy, reflective guitar riff that is bound to enchant all lovers of indie rock. This melodic morsel of sound is strewn across the top of a steady rhythm section, determined to initiate your feet tapping and your head bobbing– the perfect tune to ease you into the weekend.

Each verse begins with the refrain, pushed forward by a solid vocal harmony that we simply cannot get enough of. Pixley-Fink has a voice that has been cut from the cloth of the riot grrl, so listeners should not be at all surprised to hear a bit of a Liz Phair influence in both her performance and unapologetic subject matter.

As “Those Were The Days” progresses, additional layers of fuzzy guitars make an appearance to separate the verse sections. And while there is a melancholic tinge embedded within the lyrical content, one cannot help but find some warm and contemplative, potentially forgotten memories rising to the surface with each delivered line.

Pixley-Fink offers that “Those Were The Days” is “a raw and aching indie-rock anthem that captures the reckless intensity of young lust, the thrill of adventure, and the sting of youthful heartbreak. Infused with both nostalgia and angst, the song takes listeners on an emotional journey through the chaos and beauty of formative experiences.”

Those Were The Days” is the third single from Elisabeth Pixley-Fink’s forthcoming album, Heartsink, due out next month. Until then, enjoy this single and connect with Pixley-Fink online: Instagram | Spotify | Bandcamp | Facebook
