New York City-based indie folk artist Molly Ganley has just released “Who Are You,” the third single from her forthcoming LP, Eldest Daughter.

Who Are You” opens with the distinct sounds of lo-fi guitar, strummed for a couple of bars before the arrival of the full band. About ten seconds after pressing the play button, listeners will enjoy the sounds of a gentle rhythm section and the melodic tones of a grand piano. The overall production is raw and it is very easy to imagine the track being performed live in any intimate setting.

A major highlight here is Molly Ganley’s vocal performance. We have long used Maple Glider as the yardstick by which we measure our folksier submissions, and we are very pleased to inform you that Ganley wonderfully checks off all the boxes. She has been blessed with a voice that effortlessly flows from mellifluous to breathy, leaving the listener no choice but to hang onto every word as the truth.

As “Who Are You” progresses, the recording is further populated by divine moments of vocal harmonization, an angelic string arrangement, and the deliciously otherworldly sounds of pedal steel, which always seem to win us over when it comes to these contemplative folk numbers. Combine all of this with the song’s exploration of “the hard work our ancestors did to create a better world for us” and also “how far we still have to go,” and you’ve got the recipe for one hell of a tune.

The rest of the album is due out in March, but you can now enjoy “Who Are You” on all streaming platforms. Additionally, you can connect with Molly Ganley online: Spotify | Instagram | Website
