Elisabeth Pixley-Fink - “Habits”
Michigan-based indie songstress Elisabeth Pixley-Fink has just released “Habits,” the first single from her forthcoming album.
“Habits” was recorded directly to tape, which offers that distinct analogue glow to which we are so often drawn, particularly within these raw, melancholic morsels of indie folk. Because of this, pressing play invites the warm tones of acoustic guitar into your ears as though the track is being played right in front of you– there is simply no greater feat when it comes to the genre.
Pixley-Fink’s vocal performance is truly divine, slightly reminiscent of some of our faves, including Haley Heynderickx and Julia Jacklin, as well as a dash of Feist, which is always a lovely surprise. Over the refrain, she’s added a gentle harmony that is bound to earn “Habits” multiple spins, as well as a permanent position in all of your meditative and introspective playlists.
Midpoint brings a tasteful display of lead guitar, widening the soundscape, yet allowing “Habits” to maintain its reflective, raw, and intimate sense of character. The song appears to have been crafted to flood the listener with nostalgia– whether or not that reopens some old, forgotten wounds will likely depend upon the number of times you play it, but we intend to listen on a loop for the rest of the weekend.
