dayaway x draigh - “Lost on You”
From Queens, New York, indie artist Amber Renee, aka dayaway, returns to us with the soothing, yet melancholic vibes of “Lost on You,” a collaboration with psychedelic pop project draigh.
If you’re in the mood for an even-tempered journey through the realm of dream pop, you really need to press that play button. “Lost on You” is the kind of song that instantly reels you in with multiple layers of shimmering and reverberating guitar textures that have been carefully cast over the top of the gentle sway of the rhythm section.
Of course, it is Amber Renee’s vocal performance that has ultimately won us over with the song, softly delving into the emotional terrors of unrequited love. And we’ve all been there, so the fact that she’s hitting this nail with such a mellifluous hammer is bound to resonate with all of you, just as it has with us.
Subtle vocal layers emerge over the top of the hook, and have also been meticulously placed over key areas in the track, adding an ethereal sense of character that aligns with the otherworldly lead guitar tones. Our only real criticism here is that “Lost on You” ends at three and a half minutes, instead of playing on forever.
About the track, Amber Renee offers: “‘Lost on You’ is really quite a sad song. It’s about the realization that you love someone who isn’t in a place to receive it. Your love is real, but it’s wasted on someone who can’t hold its weight.” This somber mood is perfectly echoed through the track’s accompanying slow-motion video.
