Toronto, Ontario-based Cuff The Duke have just released the timeless indie rock track, “Seasons Come, Seasons Go.”

This song grabs your attention straight away, with the atmospheric and immersive timbres of a soulful organ, which richly pad the track with warmth. The mood is one of brooding intensity until the song’s coda, where the organ flares into something haunting, almost psychedelic in ambience, reminiscent of Pink Floyd. The glowing, contemplative colours create a steady grounding for the gritty and moody elements that rest on top.

Contrasting the smooth tones of the organ are the gritty, moody, and percussive textures of the rhythm guitar, alongside shimmering, reflective bursts from the lead guitar. However, it is the emotive, expressive weaving of the violin that takes centre stage, gracefully dressing the track and swelling majestically with meditative intensity. That’s all before we get to the tom laden drum fills and thick, introspective pulses of bass.

The vocal performance is delightfully as atmospheric as the music. Weathered, earnest, and rich, the delivery rises and falls with a sense of seasoned wisdom that I would compare to a lamenting Tom Petty. Songwriter Wayne Petti adds: “Over the years, I have sadly lost a few friends at a young age and, of course, lost other friends and family members who had longer lives… Regardless, it’s always very hard to lose someone you love or care about. The song is self-explanatory: ‘Some die young, and some die old, just like the seasons come and seasons go.’”

Seasons Come, Seasons Go” is a gritty, raw, swaggering beast of a track that is both powerful and emotionally resonant. The track comes ahead of the band’s forthcoming LP, Breaking Dawn, due for release on September 6.
