Blush Face - “Libby”

Richmond’s Blush Face have been concocting ambitious, indie-pop rockers with absolute authority. It all began at an open mic in 2016, and now their sound has evolved into the wide and sonic landscape that it is today. Inspired by the likes of Mazzy Star and Sleater-Kinney, listeners are in for quite the treat, as we introduce their brand new single, “Libby.”

With a dreamy retro vibe, Blush Face serve up some sweet and bold jazziness with this one. The lovely vocals are supported by a rich accompaniment of assorted musical accouterments. The maturity of the harmonies that is massaged out of the melody by the instruments is so refreshing that we are instantly lost in the world of this song.

Libby” is like a journey to a better, more sophisticated planet, where hooks are crafted with care and a deliberation that is so precise that it almost feels accidental. The horn section is like a four course meal at a five star resort. I feel like putting on a tuxedo to sip some champagne while I am whisked away by this tune. I think I need a chandelier. Come to think of it, this song is like a chandelier, elegantly drawing my focus to its glorious, glamorous grandeur. Elements of guitar and piano ebb and flow as the drums with rolling toms carry things along. And, of course, the vocals, swathed in a reverb that accentuates the natural vibrato wonderfully, are delightful and perfectly elevate the mood.
