Mike Legere - “Memory Forming Clouds”
Mike Legere, from Toronto, Ontario, has just shared his new song, “Memory Forming Clouds,” and it is a wonderful slice of raw emotion.
The song’s lyrical content is about coming to the end of a long-term relationship and feeling as though everything is falling apart– leaving a real sense of bitterness and a loss of direction. The song eloquently expresses all of these feelings, while also making sense of this terrible experience.
“Memory Forming Clouds” begins quietly and opens like a story. Drum strikes punctuate the quickly strummed guitar chords. A sensation of chaos is created beautifully by the lead guitar rolling across the spaces created by the lyrical breaks. The verses are also tastefully padded by reverbed guitar, as the singer conveys a rising undertone of venom. The melancholic guitar solo breaks into an aggressive crescendo that nearly sounds dissonant, constantly building like a storm on the horizon. It almost seems as though a sense of peace is being gained from the expression as the song gracefully fades back to its conclusion of reverbed guitar notes.
“When I first started writing the song, I felt sick to my stomach,” explains Legere. “Just processing the words and the intention of that fact that I had chosen to leave what was once a home, and a person who was my home for close to 10 years. I naturally felt out this staccato pulsating on my sister's classical guitar, it felt like it mirrored my slightly inclined body leaning apprehensively forwards, fighting off a panic attack.”
