Blitz Playhouse - “Ha Ha Ha’s”
Transatlantic four-piece Blitz Playhouse have just released the magnificent post-punk track, “Ha Ha Ha’s.”
“Ha Ha Ha’s” is pushed forward by a syncopated, almost tribal drum groove that bathes the composition in a brilliant primal energy– much in the same way as Peter Clarke’s drumming style for Siouxsie and the Banshees, shifting, restless and filled with controlled aggression. In fact, the ghost of that band haunts this track in the most spectacular ways. Whether it is the repeating angular, psychedelic guitar riffs, hypnotic, floor-shuddering bass or the dark, evocative swells of texture that mysteriously linger in all the right places.
With a husky, otherworldly vibe that is nothing short of spellbindingly iconic, Blitz Playhouse again push those classic post-punk vibes front and centre. The delivery is theatrical, icy, detached, yet fiery and impassioned. Through precise and deliberate accentuation of words and syllables, the performance exudes a weird and wonderful sense of empowerment and an unbendable refusal to conform.
Drawing on the profound challenges faced by creative individuals in today’s society. Vocalist Bella Geiwald pulls from her experiences of grief and the struggle of seeing close friends and family, who are gifted yet burdened by mental health issues, navigate a world that often fails to support them. The track captures this helplessness, calling out society for its neglect of those who are struggling with the mundane tasks and work attitude that make you a ‘contributing adult’ but are extraordinarily talented.
About the track, Blitz Playhouse add: “This song is a tribute to the strength it takes to offer love ‘with a wink and a smile’ while battling personal demons” explains Geiwald. “To me, it’s about the teachers, healers, and shamans among us who struggle to find their place in a society that doesn’t always recognise their worth, or give them a seat at the table.”
Absorbing, haunting, relentless, Blitz Playhouse smash it out of the park with this diverse and adventurous offering to the musical gods. The group will be recording their debut 12-track album in the UK this January and we cannot wait to hear what they conjure from these sessions.
