Blitz Playhouse - “Deep”

Transatlantic four-piece Blitz Playhouse have just released the deliciously upbeat and tense indie rock track, “Deep.”

With hints of many genres, from space rock to post punk, “Deep” exudes a moody, introspective, and tense vibe that blends the alternative rock sensibilities of The Verve, as heard in tracks like “Colombo,” with the uneasy playfulness of Siouxsie and the Banshees’ “Happy House.”

The guitar work is central to the song’s expansive, cosmic mood, with driving, muted layers of electric guitar that pulse rapidly over the verses. This creates an alluring tension that is released with rippling and shimmering surf rock-esque chords in the choruses. The drums, with their intense, hypnotic beat, tightly hold the groove, while the deep, slick, and resonant bass enhancing the sense of brooding momentum.

The theatrical and artful vocal performance has a magnificently detached, charismatic, and commanding sense of expression. It effortlessly shifts from enthralling playfulness to an almost menacing forcefulness. Engaging and unsettling, the delivery wonderfully contrasts with the upbeat, bouncy groove of the music.

Deep” is taken from Blitz Playhouse’s new EP, Behind The Veil. The band will be performing the EP in full at the Windmill Brixton on 24th August.
