Big Warm Bed - “Building Roads”
Leeds-based indie artist Jacob Andrews, aka Big Warm Bed, returns to the blog with the chill and nostalgic sounds of “Building Roads.”
We last heard from Big Warm Bed upon the release of the Shores I’m Swimming In EP, when we featured the track, “Can’t Quit.” We were instantly fans upon hearing it, so we could not wait to wrap our ears around some new material. We are very pleased to inform you that “Building Roads” finds Andrews with the glowing warmth of creamy, lo-fi analogue completely intact.
For music lovers feeling stuck in the monotonous routine of daily living, this smooth slice of retro-rock will work its way beneath your skin at the press of the play button. “Building Roads” begins with some organ tones cast atop a thick and gentle rhythm section. The mid-1960s, Laurel Canyon vibe is instantly obvious, washing over listeners with a familiar, evocative tinge that is becoming harder and harder to find in modern recordings.
Some raw and gritty chords from an electric guitar underscore Andrews’ vocal performance, which bears some resemblance to the work of John Lennon, finely multitracked and coated in a thick sheen of reverb. Layers of harmonies emerge over key areas, adding a hefty dose of dimension to the production and allowing the lyrics to enter the ears like a dream.
Midpoint brings a dynamic shift that highlights some finger-plucked guitar, soon joined by the whirling sounds of mellotron and heavenly vocal textures. From there, “Building Roads” enters a crescendo that will have you rushing back to that play button, again and again.
“Building Roads” is now available everywhere via Dance To The Radio and we hope that it means more music is on the way from Big Warm Bed. In the meantime, enjoy the hell out of this tune and connect with the artist online: Spotify | Instagram | Facebook | Twitter | TikTok | Bandcamp
