Alara - “Nice to Know You”
Brooklyn-based Alara has just released the soothing indie rock track “Nice to Know You.”
“Nice to Know You” is built around a relaxed drum groove which establishes an almost hypnotic pulse. Complementing this rhythm, is the acoustic guitar, adding a layer of shimmering texture while bass pulses warmly underneath. Ethereal waves of electric guitar are allowed to weave and swell gracefully in the leftover spaces.
The simplicity of the composition helps the chilled vibes to permeate. There is a pleasing sense of space and openness that draws focus to the superb vocals of Alara. With a slight smoky and husky tone, the performance is beautifully melodic and tinged in a sense of vulnerability.
The music and the vocals, for me, captures the vibes of 1970s soft rock, reminiscent of acts like Fleetwood Mac. It exudes a similar polished and sophisticated flair, yet there is a lush, modern gloss on this composition, which makes it feel new and special.
Alara describes the meaning behind the track: “’Nice to Know You’ was born during a transformative 6-month period of writing just after I moved to Brooklyn. Meeting so many new people and losing what seemed like an equal number of people led to this overwhelming feeling that knowing someone, for however long, can be a gift - even if it ends badly.”
“Nice to Know You” is a beautifully crafted track, with thoughtful lyrics and immersive textures. This song would make the perfect addition to any music lover’s playlist.
