Tom Lockett - “Fly With Me”

Stoke-on-Trent-born singer-songwriter Tom Lockett has just released the indie rock track, “Fly With Me.” Filled with a striking nostalgic groove, the song exudes the unmistakable charm of classic Britpop, making me think of bands like Kula Shaker, The Bluetones and Cast.

The tune is incredibly intricate and surprising. Built around a relaxed swaggering drum groove, the song moves forward with ease. Acoustic guitar adds a rough-edged texture to the rhythm, whilst a fuzzed-out bass pulses majestically underneath. Lead guitar gives a lush, vintage warbling sound as it weaves melodically through the arrangement.

Various layers enhance and enrich “Fly With Me” whilst supplying ample amounts of ear candy. Electric piano with dark acidic-like tones on the low notes gives a sense of edge. These tones have the feel of being pushed heavily into stereo delay as the track progresses. On the high notes, we are given mellow bell tones that enhance the easy-going vibes. Percussive elements consistently enhance the groove and add a sense of intrigue. At the closing stages, harpsichord delightfully cements the vintage vibes as it vividly fleshes out the melody.

The vocals on this tune have a pleasing unique and soulful quality. The delivery is full of conviction, which is enhanced beautifully by the harmonising backing vocals. “Fly With Me” is a fantastic indie rock song that blends classic influences effortlessly. Tom Lockett demonstrates a keen awareness for melody and catchy choruses, making this track more than just an homage to the past.
