yllwblly - “Take More”

The latest from yllwblly, “Take More,” is beautiful and ethereal and reminds me of Doves earlier work. Yllwblly has a really leisurely style of singing, holding on to the end notes of the words and creating a strung out feel that perfectly matches the music. It drives and rolls at an effortless pace.

The bass line, which has a really warm tone, is this song's standout element, in my opinion, unfolding out those low, caramel tones that propel the music onward. Although the guitar tones are simple and clean, they play brilliantly in all the right spots. A ukulele acts almost as a rhythmic element, helping to glue the song together. Near the end, the bass and percussion are joined by key sounds and a hazy electric guitar to provide a really lovely dreamy crescendo.

The artist says: “I wrote this song at the beginning of the pandemic lockdown in Spring 2020; it's a lush, intimate song about daydreaming, routine, and escapism.”
